His deep understanding of tactics, leadership, and the human side of service ensures accurate, authentic and compelling portrayals of military life on screen.
From advising on the correct use of uniforms and equipment to coaching actors on military conduct and communication, Gavin helps bridge the gap between cinematic storytelling and operational reality. He has led teams in high-pressure environments and understands the nuances of chain of command, battlefield dynamics, and the unspoken codes that define military culture.
Gavin has supported a variety of productions, including providing on-the-ground expertise for an episode of the BBC series 20th Century Battlefields. His ability to guide directors, crew, and cast through the technical and emotional realities of military life adds a vital layer of credibility to any project.
Gavin’s operational background started with service in Northern Ireland, where he worked alongside the Royal Ulster Constabulary on counter-terrorism operations, and concluded in Afghanistan, where he worked shoulder to shoulder with national and multinational security forces. For his service with the US Army in Afghanistan, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, recognising his outstanding leadership and contribution in a combat zone.

He is no stranger to working in harsh and difficult environments including the deserts of Jordan and the Kenyan bush. These experiences give him an authentic perspective on modern conflict, inter-agency cooperation, and the complexities of operating in politically sensitive and physically challenging environments.
Gavin also served twice at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where his eye for detail, strong inter-personal skills and engaging nature made him a popular and respected senior officer.
Whether it's a gritty war drama or a character-driven narrative involving veterans, Gavin's mission is to ensure accuracy, authenticity, and respect for those who serve, bringing integrity and depth to every production he supports.
